Recertification is available for optometric assistants whose CCOA certification has lapsed. A recertification\reinstatement exam allows expired candidates to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and judgment, allowing them to regain their previous standing without completing the entire program again. The recertification\reinstatement exam is designed to align with current and best practices in the field.
Upon registration, candidates who wish to recertify will receive the Program Learning Objectives and an Exam Blueprint. Note that course materials will not be available for purchase.
Eligible candidates for recertification\reinstatement include individuals whose CCOA certification has lapsed within two years of their expiration date.
The recertification\reinstatement exam consists of 100 multiple-choice questions and is delivered on CAO’s Learning Management System. The duration of the exam is two hours. To pass, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 75%.
Candidates who do not achieve the required pass rate will have one opportunity to rewrite the exam. A fee will apply.
To register for the recertification exam or to ask any questions, please contact ccoa@opto.ca.
