This module covers the different types and materials of contact lenses. Students are taught how to conduct contact lens fittings, and the importance of proper lens care and handling.
Upon completion of this module, the optometric assistant will be able to:
- Describe the ocular anatomy and tear film factors that affect contact lens fit, comfort, and corneal health.
- Differentiate between common contact lens materials, types, and wearing modalities.
- Explain how fit, oxygen, tear exchange, and compliance affect eye health.
- Identify common contact lens complications and signs that require urgent follow-up.
- Demonstrate safe insertion, removal, cleaning, storage, and re-centering techniques.
- Educate patients on hygiene, solution use, follow-up care, and safe wear habits.
