CCOA Final Examination

CCOA Final Examination 

The CCOA examination is the final requirement to complete the CCOA program. 

Exam Details

  • Format: Online and closed book
  • Questions: 100 multiple-choice questions
  • Time Limit: Two hours
  • Content: General knowledge and material from all nine course modules
  • Not proctored; can be completed from home

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to write the final exam, students must:

  1. Complete all module requirements for all nine modules.
  2. Attend the CCOA workshop
  3. Maintain employment with the sponsoring optometrist.

Grading and Certification

  • The CCOA pass mark is 65%.
  • If the required grade is not achieved, students are allowed two rewrites within a specified time frame (fees apply).
  • Upon passing, a certificate will be available online.

Special Accommodations

Students may request special accommodations. To do so, email ccoa@opto.ca with the following:

• A letter from a qualified professional (e.g., physician or psychologist) confirming a medical or disability-related need
• A description of functional limitations (e.g., difficulty with concentration or need for extended processing time)
• Recommended accommodations (e.g., extra time)

Requests must be submitted to CAO at least 10 days before the scheduled exam date.
