In Module 7, students are taught how to use standard and automated lensometry to verify the prescription of a lens. Basic lab skills required to produce a finished lens are also discussed. Many of these concepts will be reviewed at the CCOA workshop.
Upon completion of this module, the optometric assistant will be able to:
- Verify prescriptions using manual and automated lensometers.
- Identify common lensometry challenges.
- Neutralize single vision and multifocal lenses.
- Measure key lens and frame verification points (pupillary distances, segment heights, base curves, etc.).
- Calculate decentration and minimum blank size.
- Inspect eyewear for accuracy and defects before dispensing.
