Module 6 - Ophthalmic Frames

Module 6 looks at the various frame parts and materials, as well as frame selection and adjustment. Additionally, students will learn tips for communicating with both patients and frame vendors. 

Upon completion of this module, the optometric assistant will be able to: 

  • Identify key frame parts and their functions. 
  • Differentiate common frame designs and materials. 
  • Insert and remove lenses using appropriate techniques. 
  • Perform basic frame repairs safely and accurately. 
  • Align and adjust frames for comfort and fit. 
  • Select frames based on prescription, facial fit, lifestyle, and patient needs. 
  • Measure key fitting parameters accurately. 
  • Communicate effective eyewear care, fitting, and handling instructions to patients.
