This module covers the comprehensive eye exam in greater detail. Students are introduced to common eye conditions and diseases, with a focus on children and senior’s vision. Basic pharmacology, triage, and patient referrals are also discussed.
Upon completion of this module, the optometric assistant will be able to:
- Describe the purpose and key components of a comprehensive eye examination.
- Differentiate common refractive errors and explain how corrective lenses are used to improve vision.
- Interpret basic prescription terminology used to describe refractive errors and corrective lens power.
- Explain common refractive surgery options, including their purposes, limitations, and post-operative considerations.
- Recognize age-related considerations in children’s vision care, including recommended examination schedules and signs of possible vision problems.
- Apply basic triage, referral, and pharmacology knowledge to support safe, timely, and appropriate patient care.
