Sometimes a patient will require additional testing to rule out, diagnose or monitor certain eye conditions or diseases. This module covers some of the most common supplementary testing procedures and equipment including: visual fields, digital imaging systems (OCT, HRT, corneal topography, fundus photography), and pachymetry.
Upon completion of this module, the optometric assistant will be able to:
- Explain how visual field testing detects and monitors visual pathway defects.
- Compare common visual field testing methods and their uses.
- Identify key clinical uses of corneal topography.
- Describe pachymetry and its role in measuring corneal thickness and assessing glaucoma, corneal edema, keratoconus, and refractive surgery suitability.
- Demonstrate appropriate preparation, capture, and documentation for fundus photography.
- Differentiate digital imaging systems by function and clinical application.
