Job Description

Optometrist – Independent Contractor (1-2 Days/Week to Start, Growth Opportunity)
Vanier Optical is a new private optical practice located at 255 Montreal Road in Ottawa (Vanier), dedicated to providing accessible, patient‑focused eye care in a friendly, community‑oriented setting. Our goal is to build a clinic where patients feel known, not rushed, and where collaboration between optometrist and optician is at the centre of care.

Meet the owner:
I am Seif, a Registered Optician and clinical instructor in the opticianry program at La Cité in Ottawa. I also work as a dispensing optician at the Wabano Eye Clinic, a collaborative clinic between Wabano Centre, La Cité and a team of optometrists, where I oversee pretesting and the optical floor and train future opticians in a real clinical environment.
We are looking for a friendly, motivated Optometrist to join Vanier Optical as an independent contractor on a part‑time basis to start (1-2 day per week, with flexibility), with the option to increase days and explore an associate‑style arrangement as the practice grows and if it is a good mutual fit.

What we offer:
Start with 1 day per week, with flexibility to build a schedule that works for you and potential to add more days over time.
Collaborative environment with a Registered Optician who is actively involved in teaching and clinic operations.
Equipped exam lane including autorefractor, autokeratometer, tonometer, slit lamp, and both manual and digital phoropters, with additional diagnostic equipment open for discussion based on your interests.
Administrative and dispensing support to help you focus on clinical care.
Compensation structure is open to discussion (daily minimum, percentage of billings, or mixed model) so we can find an arrangement that feels fair and sustainable for both parties.

What you bring:
You’re a Doctor of Optometry, licensed or eligible for licensure in Ontario and in good standing (or soon to be) with the College of Optometrists of Ontario.
You’re comfortable providing comprehensive eye care in a private practice setting and are interested in having a real say in how the clinic and patient flow evolve over time.
You enjoy full‑scope primary care: examining eyes, prescribing and managing glasses and contact lenses, and using your clinical judgment to decide when to monitor, treat within your scope, or refer. You value clear, practical communication so patients understand their eye health and feel involved in decisions.
You like working with a team rather than in a silo. You’re open to collaborating with opticianry students and helping model a respectful, efficient, and patient‑centred environment, whether you have many years of experience or you’re just starting out. We genuinely welcome both new grads and experienced optometrists and are happy to adapt orientation, pace, and support to where you are in your career.

Application Instructions

If this sounds like it could be a good fit, feel free to reach out by email at vanieroptical@gmail.com or by phone at 613‑695‑7135 to start a conversation about schedule and compensation. If you’d like, you can also include a brief overview of your experience or a CV, but it’s not required for an initial discussion.
We look forward to connecting and shaping a role that works for you and for the Vanier community.
