Job Description

ABOUT THE PRACTICE

Forest Hill Optical is an independent optical boutique with a full optometry clinic built into it, at street level in Forest Hill Village. We have been at this address for over fifteen years.

The practice is appointment-based. Our optometrist sees roughly ten patients a day with time for proper, unhurried examinations. Because the clinic sits inside the optical store, retail traffic feeds the exam room. Our current optometrist previously practised on the third floor of an office tower. Her patient volume changed substantially after moving here, without any additional marketing on her part.

We carry twelve independent designer frame lines, including DITA, Tom Ford, Thierry Lasry and Loewe. An experienced optician handles all dispensing.

THE ROLE

Comprehensive eye examinations, contact lens fitting, and ocular health assessment. Complete clinical autonomy. Modern equipment and full support staff, so your time is spent with patients rather than on administration.

Schedule is negotiable. No evenings and no mall hours.

COMPENSATION

Base plus percentage, structured to be competitive with or above the national average for practising optometrists. We are happy to discuss specifics at first conversation rather than leaving it vague.

OWNERSHIP PATHWAY

This is what makes the position unusual, and we would rather be upfront about it.

We are opening additional locations in the Greater Toronto Area and we want the optometrists who work with us to own them. That can mean owning the clinic, or owning both the clinic and the optical store alongside it.

We handle the parts that normally prevent optometrists from going independent. We find and negotiate the lease using established relationships with major landlords. We work with the Canadian banks on financing, recognising that graduates often carry meaningful debt. We provide training on the retail side, or help you recruit a strong optician if you would prefer to focus on clinical work. You can operate under our brand or your own.

Your professional corporation remains entirely yours, as do all clinical decisions and patient relationships.

There is no obligation attached. If you want to remain an associate long term, that works for us as well.

QUALIFICATIONS

Licensed and in good standing with the College of Optometrists of Ontario, or eligible for registration. All levels of experience are welcome. Interest in the business side of optometry is an asset but not a requirement.
