Dr. Woo began his career in private practice before transitioning into academia. He held various positions at the University of Houston College of Optometry and the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University.


In 2017, Dr. Woo was appointed Director of the School of Optometry & Vision Science at the University of Waterloo. Over the past eight years, under his visionary leadership, the School has experienced remarkable growth - advancing curriculum development, expanding research initiatives, and deepening community outreach. Today, it stands internationally recognized as a centre of excellence in optometric education and innovation.


Among Dr. Woo’s most significant achievements is the creation of the Waterloo Eye Institute—a groundbreaking initiative that has broadened access to advanced eye care, research, and education. A passionate advocate for the profession, Dr. Woo has played a pivotal role in strengthening collaborations between the School and professional associations, enhancing educational opportunities, research partnerships, and national support for the profession.
Beyond his administrative and academic accomplishments, Dr. Woo has been a driving force in advancing innovation in optometry. He has championed new technologies, research, and clinical practices that have transformed patient care. His unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion has fostered initiatives that ensure the profession evolves to reflect and serve the diverse communities it touches.
