We are looking for a dynamic and patient-focused associate optometrist to join our practice part-time in January 2022, moving to full-time by mid-year or sooner for the right candidate. Our office operates Monday to Wednesday and Friday from 8:30-5:00 and Thursdays from 10:00-6:30. We have provided nearly forty years of full-scope, independent patient care from the historical downtown at the heart of Moose Jaw. This smaller, “notorious” area is a popular tourist destination, offering all the amenities of a city but with a small town feel.
Our patient base draws from Moose Jaw’s growing and wide-ranging population of >30,000 people, as well as multiple smaller communities within a ~100 km radius. We offer comprehensive eye exams with an emphasis on prevention of ocular disease, and work closely with the local ophthalmologists, family physicians, and other specialists to provide excellent care to all our patients. We also provide binocular vision / perception evaluations, as well as Lantern colour vision testing. We offer specialty contact lens fits including sclerals, RGPs, and MiSight contact lenses for myopia control. Aside from our in-office care, we provide home visits within Moose Jaw, and at nursing homes in Moose Jaw and Central Butte. We also provide remote eye care to five different First Nations communities in Southern Sask.
Our office is outfitted with a full suite of clinical equipment: four full exam lanes and a fifth wheelchair-adapted lane, two pre-test rooms with auto R/K, NCT/pachymetry & FDT. Imaging includes California Optomap, Nidek camera fundus photography, & Heidelberg Spectralis OCT. We have both Humphrey & Octopus visual field machines, hand-held Keeler slit lamp and pachymeter, Tonopen and iCare tonometers, and Bleph-Ex treatment apparatus. We partner with OSI as our buying-group and use Optosys EMR system for our exam records, billing, booking, and ordering. Other services and eyewear brands are listed on our website.
Moose Jaw features multiple beautiful park spaces, including Crescent Park downtown and Wakamow Valley. The Mosaic Place arena is home to the WHL’s Moose Jaw Warriors hockey team. Moose Jaw is also home to a Western Major Baseball League team - the Moose Jaw Miller Express makes their home at Ross Wells Park. In the arts community, the Mae Wilson theatre is the center of stage performances from both local and internationally recognized groups. There are also many other unique attractions in the area, including Tunnels of Moose Jaw tours, Sukanen Ship Pioneer Village & Museum, Prairie Storm Paintball, Snowbirds Air Show, Buffalo Pound Provincial Park, and Lake Diefenbaker.
There are over a dozen public and Catholic elementary and high schools, with many also offering French immersion, and Moose Jaw's Ecole Ducharme school is one of few remaining francophone schools in the province. Students can seek post-secondary education at Moose Jaw's Sask Polytech campus, at Briercrest Seminary in Caronport, or at the nearby University of Regina (45 minutes away) or University of Saskatchewan (2.5 hours away in Saskatoon). Moose Jaw is home to a competitive and affordable housing market, with median house prices in 2020 ~$100,000 less than comparable houses in Regina and with a 2-bedroom apartment renting for <$1000 (one of the lowest rates in Saskatchewan).
