The Director, Policy and Advocacy leads the organization’s strategic requirements for professional practice and policy. S/he is responsible for identifying and preparing responses to key issues relating to eye health and the profession of optometry, monitoring government, other health policy organizations’ and optometric or insurance industry publications/positions/research/white papers on issues with a potential impact on eye health and vision care. The position focusses on the development of position statements, policies and clinical practice guidelines to support the profession. It also develops and implements strategies for working with employers, advisers and insurance companies to enhance insurance coverage, which will result in greater productivity and better health outcomes for Canadians. Research, education and building/ maintaining relationships with healthcare stakeholders are also key responsibilities.
