Description d’emploi

Optometric Assistant  , Part-Time

Kelowna, BC

Inspired Eyes has been providing Kelowna with unique eyewear since 2010 and it's a great place to work and learn. We have a loyal and engaged clientele. They love us, and we love them, so we are looking to add an exceptional Optometric Assistant to help our team deliver the value they deserve!

The Organization

Inspired Eyes Creative Eyewear & Optometry is a well-established optical clinic located in the heart of downtown Kelowna, British Columbia.   We are a full service clinic, providing eye examinations, fashion forward eyeglasses, sunglasses and contact lenses. Inspired Eyes specializes in rare, innovative, and beautiful eyewear from leading European brands and offers customized lenses in a comfortable and charming boutique setting. We also serve a niche clientele of Vision Therapy patients, making their therapeutic glasses for them. We love the reward of helping people to see life more clearly and feel beautiful  in their choice of eyewear.

The Opportunity

The Optometric Assistant performs a variety of tasks including reception, pre-testing, administering visual field tests, contact lens training and dispensing eyeglasses.  As the first point of  contact, your warm, friendly, professional welcome will set the tone for patients arriving or calling our office. You will be the friendly face that greets clients and the smiling voice to answer the telephone inquiries. You will schedule appointments for the doctor and other dispensing staff, monitor emails, process insurance billings and payments. If you can step in to help dispense eyewear that will be great but your primary role will be to assist the doctor. Your attention to detail and super power for organizational efficiency will be a huge asset to the team. If accurate reports and a balanced day end is a thing of beauty to you, you’ll be a great fit!  The Optometric Assistant works directly with customers, co-workers and the business owner to provide support in order to meet our ultimate goal, which is to create an enjoyable and productive experience for our customers.

We laugh a lot, we help each other, we have fun at work. If this speaks to you, we would love to have you join us for a steady 2 or 3 days a week. We believe in a work culture that supports professional growth  and leaves room  to enjoy an adventurous and exciting life.  So we’d love it even more if you have the flexibility to sometimes work more to cover shifts when staff are away.

The Perks

Perks to the job include: free glasses every year, a free Vision Wellness Assessment annually with the Doctor, discounts on glasses and eye exams for your immediate family, continuing education opportunities, your professional licensing fees paid, parking allowance, being a part of a dynamic team of eyecare professionals!

The Drawbacks

We need you to work some Saturdays. You’ll pay for parking (but we help with that). Our people love to travel (maybe you do too) so sometimes we have to get flexible on the schedule to cover for each other. We’ve got a cozy little space (key word little) so we work in close proximity. We’ve got some colorful characters in the neighborhood who are occasionally a little loud  (you’ll soon get to know who’s who!).

Education and Experience

Certification as a Canadian Certified Optometric Assistant (CCOA) or as a Licensed Optician is preferred.

Work experience in an optometric office  or optical store is preferred.

Work experience in other community healthcare settings will also be considered (eg dental, chiropractic, physio, medical, etc). Lots of those skills transfer well to optical! If this job isn’t for you but you know someone who might be interested, please pass this along to a friend!

Proficiency with technology to work with electronic patient management systems, email and direct billing insurance, especially Jane App or MVE (My Vision Express) and insurance billing portals.

Initiative to communicate and solve problems.

Aptitude for quick learning-we’re hoping you arrive already understanding the basics of scheduling, billing and handling patient data so you can jump right in to learn our systems.

Detail oriented and well organized.

Effective time management with the ability to perform a variety of tasks in a quick environment.

Wage negotiable based on certification and experience, aiming for $25-29 per hour.

Team player- We think we’re pretty fun, we know we’re good at what we do and we hope you are the right person to slide right in and make us better yet!
