On July 29, 2015, Federal Health Minister Rona Ambrose, announced that Health Canada is proceeding with regulations that will require identical safety standards for non-corrective (cosmetic) contact lenses as prescription/corrective contact lenses. These new regulations will come into effect on July 16, 2016, as per the anticipated yearlong moratorium in order to meet Canada’s obligations on technical barriers to trade, and to allow manufacturers of non-corrective contact lenses to bring their operations into compliance with the new requirements.
