CAO recently received a reply letter from Dr. Theresa Tam, Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, at the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). CAO had sent a letter to Minister Jane Philpott during Vision Health Month (VHM) thanking her for her department’s support for vision health, where she also mentioned our frequency guidelines for eye exams. You will note, in an effort to assist CAO in realizing our goals to increase public awareness, that PHAC has committed to: • Distributeour vision health awareness publications for children during Children’s Vision Month to federally funded children’s programs such as the Community Action Program for Children, and the Aboriginal Head Start program, • Connect CAO with the Joint Consortium on School-Aged Children and the Public Health Network CAO is very pleased with this positive letter with tangible action items from PHAC and expect that our strong Federal Role Paper on Vision Care is reaching the right audiences with a message that they are ready to hear and act upon.
