CAO Congress 2017 - Submissions for Poster Session

The Organizing Committee for CAO Congress 2017 invites submissions for a Poster Session to be presented on Thursday, 29 June 2017 between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Authors may expect to be scheduled at specific times in the Congress program to present their posters.

Clinical Case Reports and Case Series

Posters present novel clinical observations, provide insight into disease mechanisms, report innovative treatment strategies, or provide new information about the management of ocular conditions. Conventional case reports of previously published or well-known conditions will not be accepted.

Clinical Educational and Scientific Research

Posters describe original unpublished hypothesis driven or observational research with a solid study design, rigorous methodology, quantitative data analysis, and well-supported conclusions. Example research topics appropriate for this category include: interventional treatments, disease prevention, disease prevalence, pathophysiology, health policy, appraisal of clinical or didactic education methods, etc.

Instructions for Authors

  1. Abstract submissions will only be accepted at info@opto.ca from January 1st  through February 28th 2017, 11:59 PM EST.
  2. Abstracts must consist of text only. No pictures, graphs, tables or links will be accepted.
  3. Abstract character count limit is 2,000 (including spaces).
  4. Authors are required to upload a Word or PDF version of their abstract.
  5. Authors are permitted a maximum of two first-author presentations within the scientific program. Any combination of paper or poster presentations are permitted, however, no more than two first-author submissions will be accepted. There is no limit to the number of co-authored submissions, e.g. authors may be listed as second, third or other position on any number of submissions.
  6. Authors presenting their work at the Congress MUST be registered for the meeting.
  7. The first author is solely responsible for presentation of accepted abstracts at the date and time assigned by the Poster Selection Committee. Co-authors, substitutes, or multiple presenters are not permitted.
  8. First authors will present the poster from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, 29 June 2017.  Authors should not submit to the scientific program unless they can commit to be present.
  9. Ethical and Regulatory Requirements: The first author is required to provide assurance of compliance with the following ethical and regulatory requirements:
    • Research involving human subjects must be conducted in accordance with the guidelines provided by the Declaration of Helsinki and in adherence of applicable human subjects’ requirements.
    • Research involving animal subjects must be conducted in accordance with international standards for animal treatment and care, as published, for example, by the Society of Neuroscience and ARVO.
    • All coauthors must read and approve the final, submitted version of the abstract and consent to listing their name as an author.
  10. Copyright Assignment: authors are required to transfer the copyright for their submitted abstract to the Canadian Association of Optometrists. First authors must provide assurance that all coauthors agree to the copyright transfer terms. The abstracts will be published in the Canadian Journal of Optometry
  11. Conflict of Interest Disclosure: the first author is responsible for disclosing any conflict of interest on behalf of all listed authors. Any conflict of interest must also be disclosed on the poster.

Abstract Evaluation Criteria

  • The level of scientific or clinical novelty
  • The methodological soundness
  • If a quantitative description of the results is present (for scientific posters)
  • If conclusions are supported by results

Submissions of previously published copyrighted material (e.g. ARVO abstracts or journal articles) will not be accepted.
