I have a pinguecula that is quite big and inflamed that is bothering me because my eye is always burning and it always feels like there is something inside of it. I was wondering if you knew of any ophthalmologist in Ottawa or Toronto that perform a stitch-less surgery by surgical glue instead of sutures to remove the pinguecula. I have read that it is a pretty safe and simple procedure. Thank you for answering my question.

    Dr Carol Doman's response:

    Philippe,
Your best course of action would be to visit your optometrist to determine the best treatment plan for your specific case. The vast majority of pingueculae never get to the point where surgery would be recommended. Many times treatment with eye drops can decrease the inflammation and make the eye significantly more comfortable. Unless the pinguecula are severe removal is considered cosmetic and many ophthalmologists are hesitant to remove them for cosmetic purposes.
