    Post-Lasik Problems

Hi! I am six months post lasik, for mono-vision. I was overcorrected in both eyes. Dominant left eye is +1.25 (around -1 astigmatism) and right eye is -.5 (-.74 astigmatism). Also, my sight deteriorates in low light. In right eye, glasses seem to give poorer contrast in low light. In right eye, the vision actually decreases as the light is dimmed. I also have dry eyes, so contacts are not an option. I would like to leave the mono-vision concept and get a pair of progressive glasses. Are there some forms of progressives that cause less distortion? The ones I have now give me ghosting of road signs at night, unless I am looking directly at them. Would a larger frame /lens provide fewer distortions? Would straight bifocals work better for someone with my vision issues? Are there some toric soft lenses that would work on a very dry eye? Would a daily disposable be acceptable? Do you know who in Ontario fits scleral lenses? Any other advice? Thanks!

    Dr Joan Hansen's response:

    Donia,
First you need to address your dry eyes. Lack of tears causes much blurring, ghosting, and discomfort. At six months you should be fairly stable and further options need to be explored. Speak with your optometrist who is doing your follow up care. It may very well be time to consider an enhancement to get you closer to what you really want in mono-vision. But the dry eyes must be addressed before any new procedures are attempted.
