Optometric Fees

Optometrists are in private practice and set their own professional fees for services. In some provinces, visual examinations for diagnostic purposes, performed by your family optometrist, are covered in part or in full by your provincially-sponsored health care plan. The particulars of this coverage will vary from province to province. Corrective or therapeutic services (eyeglasses, contact lenses, visual training) usually are not covered by provincial health plans. However, private insurance group health plans will often pay for eye examinations, eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Specifics about the nature of coverage in your province can be obtained by contacting your provincial Association of Optometrists.
